Woodcliff Reunion Weekend

This past weekend, I jumped on an airplane to Michigan. Not exactly number one on the list for places to visit on spring break, but ideal for catching up with old college roommates on a whirlwind girls' weekend! Here are a few pics and highlights from the trip...

Friday Night: Drinks & Dinner at San Chez in downtown Grand Rapids

Saturday: A great day exploring the new Calvin Athletic Center, a visit to 1704 Woodcliff, shopping, and manicures & pedicures.
We realized too late that everything was locked up for spring break. Luckily, a rec prof recognized Kristi and let us in!

Kristi would have broken a lot of swimming records in this pool!

So many laughs and good memories happened inside this house...

Spoiling ourselves...

We spent Saturday night and Sunday morning chilling at the Van Woerkem's new lake house in Lowell. Not exactly lake weather yet, but what a beautiful new home!

Baby Hannah Mock got to attend the slumber party as well...
Sunday night, we drove back to Ann Arbor to Kristi's house and my Monday departure out of Detroit. We headed over to Jungle Java for a few hours Sunday night.

Kristi and her son Jack.

Little Miss Kate...

It was a wonderful, relaxing weekend catching up with old friends. Thanks to the hubbies who were on full-time daddy duty. We really appreciate it (and are already planning our next reunion)! Mer and Kris, it was awesome to see you. Min and Beck, let's make sure you come along next time!

Brady Be 2!

On March 15, we celebrated our son's 2nd birthday. When you ask Brady how old he is, he answers "be two." Thus the title of the post. It's hard to believe that he is already two years old. It feels like we were just bringing him home from the hospital. He is one incredible boy. He is sweet, funny, tough, talkative, curious, smart, and so many other qualities all wrapped into one amazing package. We are so blessed to have him in our family. We love you Brady!
To celebrate, we had a double birthday party with Rylan at the jumping place on Saturday night. As you'll see from the video, it was quite a riot. Sunday, we started the morning with a family trip to the zoo. In the evening, we had a dinner, a few more presents, and a bit more cake with Oma and Opa and Uncle Marky. Brady kept saying "happy." I think he had a good birthday...

NOTE: The video seems to be having a bit of trouble loading all the way. If it stops before loading, move the arrow just a tiny bit past where it's frozen and it should keep going. Also, my mom took a few sideways videos, but they were so cute I had to include them anyway. So, enjoy (with your head tilted sideways!)

If You Can Dodge A Wrench...

Last night Wes and I competed in an adult dodgeball tournament. It was intended to be a co-ed league, but due to the fact that most teams could not find willing females, I think we were the only team of 6 with 50% females. Needless to say, we were eliminated early. But, we had a great time playing and going out for pizza and drinks afterwards!"Wii Are Targets" Andy, Katie, Dan, Debbie, Wes, and Cara

I was only willing to snap this shot once!

A KO On Brady's Kidney Kondition

As some of you may know, Brady has had some kidney issues for the first two years of his life. It actually started before he was even born, at my twenty week ultrasound. That day, we found out Brady was a boy. We also found out that his kidneys were enlarged. The doctors didn't seem too concerned, but it was something they would keep an eye on. When Brady was seven months old, we took him to Children's Hospital where he had to go through some tests. The tests involved a catheter (poor guy) and some x-rays. Through those tests, we found out that Brady had some reflux in his urinary tract. In other words, things that were supposed to be flowing one way were also going backwards. This could cause UTI's and blood pressure problems later in life. There is a surgical fix for this problem, but a lot of times the problem corrects itself over time. So, the prognosis was to wait until he was two and repeat the tests.

Last Thursday I took Brady to the hospital to repeat the tests. We headed into the x-ray lab where Brady had to put on this lovely purple koala gown. I know I'm probably the only mom who breaks out her cell phone to take a picture of her son in the hospital, but oh well. The catheter was not a whole lot of fun. I can only imagine what was going through Brady's mind as three women (myself, the nurse, and the x-ray tech) told him everything was going to be ok! Needless to say, the procedure was over soon. Brady did, however, spend the rest of that day and the next telling everyone "Lady. Hurt. Wiener." while grabbing his diaper. Poor little man.

This Thursday, we took the films to the specialist to get the verdict. The doctor came in to the room for about 10 seconds, said "this is why we wait" and said everything is great and his kidneys are functioning properly.

We are so thankful that everything turned out ok and that Brady doesn't need surgery!
