Grand Lake Weekend Getaway

Every year, at the end of the volleyball season, Wes and I like to go on some sort of trip with just the two of us.  We've gone to Vegas and South Bend several times, but we didn't have anything planned for this year.  So, a month or two ago, when our friend Dana invited us up to her aunt and uncle's cabin in Grand Lake, we decided it would be a perfect celebration of the end of volleyball.

We have been to the cabin before with our family, but this time it was an adults-only trip with our friends Jen, Chris, Nate, Trish, and Dana.

Everyone else went up Thursday evening.  I had to finish my week of school, so Wes and I took off on Friday afternoon.  My parents took the kids for Friday night to Saturday noon, and then Wes's mom took over for the rest of Saturday until Sunday when we got home.  Thanks so much!

We arrived on Friday evening and had a delicious dinner prepared by Dana.  Afterwards, we headed down into the town of Grand Lake to everyone's favorite local bar, The Lariat.

Jen, Trish, Nate, Dana, Chris, and Wes the Cowboy.  He found this hat and decided to sport it for the evening.  I kind of like it!
If you read this blog with any sort of regularity, you'll know that Wes doesn't really enjoy having his picture taken.  So, I tried to get a few pics of the two of us this weekend.  Wes was a pretty good sport.
There are things plastered on every wall and the ceiling of the Lariat.  We sat right underneath this buffalo.  He was kind of our mascot for the evening.
The ladies enjoyed a few drinks and some good conversation.
The boys discovered this hunting video game and spent the remainder of the evening forking over dollars to shoot ducks, deer, elk, bears, you name it, they shot it!
After a few hours, we decided to call it a night a headed home to crash in the warm, cozy, amazing cabin.

You'd think that with no kids and a late evening out, we would all sleep in.  But, our internal alarm clocks are all set for early mornings, so we were all back up and ready for the day by about 8:00 the next morning.  It was an absolutely beautiful, sunny morning.
Here is the view from the deck.

We headed back into town for breakfast at another local restaurant, but we snapped a few shots first.
I think we were both mid giggle for this one.
After breakfast, we walked around main street and hiked down by the lake.
I absolutely love this shot.  Everyone was being silly, but it turned out so cute.
Wes shoe sledding down the street.
 Grand Lake.
 Hanging out on the dock.
 The girls.
We headed back to the cabin and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing.
We shot bb guns and enjoyed the sunshine on the porch.

We played Hearts and watched the Notre Dame vs. BYU game.
And Chris played the guitar and we chilled in front of the fire.
Honestly, it was so much fun just to relax and just hang out.  After such an incredibly busy fall, it was the perfect way to spend the weekend.
After the game was over, we all got ready and headed back into town for dinner and drinks.  (It's funny because when we came to the cabin with my family, we never even left the house!  I guess that's the difference when you're just hanging with adults!)  Saturday night, we ate a mexican restaurant called Poncho & Lefties, then headed back to The Lariat to cap off our evening.
Of course, the boys played the shooting video game.
There was some live music, and we had a great time requesting songs, dancing to our requests, and mingling with a few of the locals.  (I tried to hook up Jen and Dana with a few of Grand Lake's firefighters!)  Here is Jen, making a dramatic entrance through the saloon doors.  The firefighters were sure to notice!
The night--and the entire weekend for that matter--was an absolute blast.  I laughed a lot, which felt so great.  We were happy to see our kids when we got home Sunday night, but it was so good to spend some time together with just us.  Dana, thanks so much for inviting us and for hosting such a fun weekend.  Chris, Jen, Nate, and Trish, we had a blast.  Can't wait until we can do it again!

Throw Back To...Halloween!

Now that it's almost Thanksgiving, I figured it was time to blog about our 2013 Halloween!  We started our celebrating early in the week with dinner and pumpkin carving at Mark and Abby's house.  Abby made an awesome lasagna dinner.  The adults ate in the dining room, and the kids got to sit at this spooky table!  Abby made super cute gift bags for each kid, and she had some fun games for them to play after dinner.
Payton playing Halloween bingo.  They used candy as game board markers!
Heath was very focused on getting a bingo.
And Brady and Nolan had just enough time to smile for a picture.
After our delicious dinner, it was time to carve pumpkins!

 Gross!
Heathy is not sure about what his big brother is up to.
The kids thought Wes looked like the Lorax!
And Uncle Mark was up to his usual shenanigans.
Payton carved her pumpkin all by herself.  She made a make believe land with all different kinds of shapes.
I helped Brady make a Notre Dame pumpkin, but the N was perfect for Nolan.
 The finished products...

We tried to snap a few with the kids as well.  Not so successful. :)

After pumpkins, we had just enough time for some spider cookies for dessert!

Thanks Mark, Abby, Nolan, Heath, and Landon for a super fun night!

On the morning of Halloween, the Science Teachers at Arapahoe all dressed as the cast of the Big Bang Theory.  We had so much fun acting like our characters all day, and the kids loved it!

Raj, Sheldon, Amy Farrah Fowler, Howard, Bernadette, Penny, and Leonard.

On Halloween night, the kids got ready for some trick or treating.  Brad, Jayne, Cohen, and Arie joined us, along with some neighbors.
Lando the Dragon, Brady the Ninja, and Payton the Spanish Dancer.

Getting candy from our headless neighbor.

After an hour or so of trick or treating, we headed over--as is tradition--to Oma and Opa's house for some dinner with the cousins.
Here's the whole gang!  Our kiddos plus Cohen (Spider Man), Arie (Fox), and Nolan, Heath, and Brooks the Ninja Turtles.
I didn't get a picture of them, but my mom and dad also dressed up as a witch and the Pillsbury Dough Boy.  So fun!  What a great week!
